Greentown Main Street Association Minutes

Monday, August 7, 2017

The Greentown Main Street Association met on Monday August 7, 2017 at the Greentown City Building. Those in attendance were:

Directors present: Jolene Rule, Lisa Stout, Rachel Jenkins, Ronda Eldridge, Garry Hill and Liesbet Patrick.

Directors absent with regrets: Ron Simpson, Mark Lantz, Mary Miller.

Other members present: Ed Hannah, Katie Regan, Renda Hurst, Angela Horton

Jolene Rule called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

The minutes of the July 2017 meeting were presented. Ronda Eldridge moved to accept the minutes and Garry Hill seconded. The motion passed.

The Treasurer's report for July was read and filed for audit.

Organization

Membership – Lisa reported 4 new members from the Farmer's Market. Elizabeth Sanders ( M & B Orchard), Abby Henning ( Abby Craft & More), Justin & Trisha Moore & Family, Brian Kunstman.

Fundraising – Is in need of a chairman.

Website – The latest updates have been made.

Facebook Page – Jolene reported 100 followers so far. She would like to see more Greentown events posted on this page. Just another way to advertise your event.

Jolene also asked about using our new logo on letterhead and business cards, etc. Garry Hill volunteered to try to make up some samples for the next meeting. It was by unanimous consent that Garry moves ahead on this.

Design - Katie Regan -Chairman
Revitalization Committee – The Revitalization Public Hearing date is set for August 15, 6:30 PM at the Town Council Meeting room. This may not be a firm date.

1st Capt. Kevin Breisch with the Greentown Volunteer Fire Dept. has expressed some concern with the bump outs that could impeed the turning of the fire trucks from N. Meridian to W. Main. The plan consultants and Main Street will continue to work with the Fire Dept on this issue. Indiana Department of Transportation says that the replacement of 22/35 Main Street is scheduled for construction beginning in 2020. Also there will be a meeting with Duke Energy to discuss lighting and line options available to us during the 2020 construction.

Town Beautification

Murals & Signage – Katie reported that they met with Steven Ray, Executive Director North Central Indiana Regional Planning Council to discuss applying for Downtown Enhancement Grant from The Office of Community and Rural Affairs. (OCRA). This is a 1.5 matching grant with a 50% match coming from the Council and .5 from in- kind contributions. A Community Foundation grant is also being considered.

The Town Council approved the mural designs and the wayfinding sign designs. The next step is to get the approval of INDOT. Some questions were. Where will they be located? And What destinations will be on the signs?

Jolene talked to Drew Reed who said that the Indian mural designed for Heartland Market has not been approved from The Eiteljorg Museum so the design will be scratched. The Main Occasions Interurban design is still moving forward.

Economic Vitality - Mark Lantz - Chairman. - no report

Promotion

Music At The Fountain – Ed Hannah reported that the last two weeks they have had to go to the Performing Arts Center. New London Sound had aprox. 121 in attendance and Sally Duke had around 171 in attendance. Rick Allen King will be the next performance and then on August 17 Ed would like for some to bring extra chairs to accomadate his out of town classmates.. The Historical Society was open before the last performace and 7 people attended.

Community Garden – No report

Art Show – Lisa Stout reported that the Art Show has started at the Greentown Mini Mall and invited everyone to attend.

Holiday Bazaar – Jodi Cecil, chairman, has set the date for November 11 at the fairgrounds.

Farmers Market – will run June thru September , Saturday mornings 9 AM – 1 PM. Racheal Parker reported that all are welcome.

Community Rummage Sale Map – The fall sale will be Sept 16.

Greentown Night Kokomo Jackrabbits game –The Eastern High School Band performed the National Anthem and Lisa Stout threw out the first pitch. It was a nice night but sadly a loss for the Jackrabbits.

Christmas Walk – There is no chairman so this event will not happen.

Old Business – Annual Meeting at Main Occasions. Nov 6

New Business – Jolene suggested some ideas that would need a chairman to happen. Others in attendance added their ideas as well. Some of them were:

Christmas walk Discussion groups

Town Park Excercise programs

Pocket Parks Programs for the elderly

Extend the Comet Trail Computer classes

Festival – Glass Festival/ Fall Festival Game Night

Weekend downtown street events with a theme Line dancing

Movie night – at the PAC/ Library Community Room /at a church/ at the block building. Quarterly?

Progressive Christmas Walk from Library- Historical Society – American Legion – Lions Club

With no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM. The next meeting will be Monday October 2, 2017 at 7:00 PM. in the Town Council meeting room at the City Building.
