HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR

For the past few months we have focused on:
  • Revitalization Plan
Plan approved by OCRA and by the Greentown Town Council on September 19. This plan will provide direction and order for downtown revitalization.

Coordination with INDOT and replacement of Main St/22/35 on issues such as downtown lighting design and things that have to be planned for when the street and sidewalks are torn up. The approved Revitalization Plan will provide legitimacy for participation in INDOT planning. Main Street replacement will be a major catalyst for addressing other downtown issues.
  • Town beautification
Flower containers on the four corners of downtown, fountain in front of town hall. Jolene has addressed maintenance issues and the Greentown Town Council will provide assistance with this.

Murals and Signage

Wayfinding Signs – have applied for a Downtown Enhancement Grant for up to 20k with a 1.5 match. Drew Reed; Brittany Miller and Kaley Harness provided a design for wayfinding signs. This design was approved by the town council
  • Holiday Lights – Mary and Jim Miller replaced the older lights with new snowflakes. The older lights were donated to the Greentown Lions Club for use in the pioneer village.
The replacement of Main Street will be an impetus for other improvements in the downtown area. One of the goals of the Design Committee re: Revitalization is to not let the plan be forgotten. It will be 2-5 years before other parts of the plan can be implemented and in the meantime we want to do things that require little or no money and that can be funded locally or through small grants. This will require all of us to stay enthusiastic about Greentown.

Please sign up to work on a committee. There is a job for everyone.

Economic Vitality - Mark Lantz - Chairman.

Mark reported that we need to keep the down town businesses informed of the reviatlization street changes. We need to pull the businesses together to attract more folks to town. We need to pool our resources. There are things we can do to help the businesses here in town. Once we get the customer in the door we need to make a good impression to keep them coming back. We also need to keep the business owners aware of the grant money available and how to apply. We need to be on fire for Greentown.

It was mentioned that Main Occasions Catering and Greentown Flooring have taken advantage of grants for their outside facade. Main Occasions Catering will be adding another sign to their building because of the revitalization plan.

Scott Deyoe mentioned that other businesses that have taken advantage of the facade grants are Greentown First United Methodist Church, The Apartments at Grant and Meridian and Hasler/Stout Funeral Home.
